FABRIC recently wrote a $500 check to Davis Wayne’s thanks to the kind contributions of our donors.
The $500 provided 50 hot meals to our neighbors in need, and the handoff was organized and executed by Lakweshia Ewing, founder of Unlearn and Everything and Live and partner to FABRIC. Each meal had two baked chicken leg quarters, roasted red potatoes, green beans, and cornbread, and all 50 of them were claimed within 12 minutes.
You read that correctly: All 50 meals were gone within 12 minutes—that’s a meal every 0.24 seconds. The meals went to families in Alton Park, Westside, East Chattanooga, and Downtown Chattanooga.
“During this distribution we encountered more families with small children under the age of 5 years old who spend most of their young lives in a posture of poverty. We were excited to provide a hot meal to these families but know that the need is so great for many of them.” Lakweshia said.
DYK? Homelessness in Chattanooga has skyrocketed from 201 people in 2020 to 1,008 people in 2022.
Using the monthly recurring donations plus the match from our partners—every donation is doubled, so $100 results in $200 donated—we’re still only able to help about 20% of those in need. Imagine the difference we would make if we could double or triple the donations we’re currently receiving.
